In deciding to be a part of the University Honors Program Student Leader Round Table, I was looking to be a part of anything because of how much campus had changed in just six months. In March, I left the University of Cincinnati as a first-year student who was learning about the university through mentorship and campus involvements. I found my interests and passions, as well as mentors and peers whom I shared these with. In returning to campus in the fall, I found myself in the positions of those who mentored me but my experience would be completely different from theirs. I am thankful to the UHP Student Leader Round Table because when my mentors could not pull from their experience I could rely on this amazing group of student leaders for feedback and inspiration.
Being involved in the UHP Student Leader Round Table was all I could have hoped for. As a second-year student, I already felt like there was so much that I still had to learn about UC. I had to learn not only how to grow as a campus leader but how to lead in a virtual setting during a pandemic. There were many times where I pulled ideas from this group and tweaked them to benefit the organizations I serve. The most beneficial aspect of this group was the diversity of it. It is evident through this group that diversity truly breeds innovation. Often times, people get so deep into their passion that they forget the passions of others and the differences that they can learn from one another. This group provided a space for people to bring their passions, innovative minds, and expertise and share that with the group for the betterment of campus. In the midst of a global pandemic, I could not have asked for a better group of students to collaborate with, bounce ideas off of, and be supported by, than this group of campus leaders.
